Matt retired from Hy-Vee after 39 years of service in various capacities including Vice President/Procurement, Vice President/Equipment Purchasing, and Vice President/ Food Manufacturing. He is a graduate of Truman State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

He and his wife, Brenda, have five children and two grandchildren and live in Ankeny. Matt also serves as Treasurer for InnerVisions HealthClinic in West Des Moines, and is a board member of Special Olympics Iowa.
